AMY CLARKE, Artist
Amy Clarke’s painterly background has been steeped in her direct response to the land in which she grew up on a property in south-west Queensland - between St George and Roma, and later on the Sunshine Coast hinterland, near Noosa. Having moved away and lived in the city for twenty years she has returned to a rural environment which she is discovering to be her spiritual home. Clarke finds a translation which is not always literal, as in Elizabeth Cumming's philosophy of a deep love and respect for the landscape, ' more the spirit of the place'. She also uses the landscape as a metaphor to express and respond to the world.
