Biography
It is the tangled, fragmented and chaotic web of family, childhood memory and the natural world that feeds Amy Clarke’s art practice. Amy is naturally drawn to abstraction and finds that the process allows her to explore more unconscious physical and emotional themes – the less predictable.
“My paintings and drawings are an evolving thing – each body of work tends to take on a life of its own and I like to work in this intuitive way – although there is a thread, particularly the natural world which is so much a part of my current environment and childhood spent growing up on farms. The paintings tend to inform me rather than me imposing something on them,” says Amy. “My art also provides essential time to dream and an escape from life’s practicalities,” says the artist.
Career highlights for Amy include First Prize in the 2011 Goondiwindi Aspects Art Prize, Commended in the 2010 Norvill Prize for Landscape and an Arts Queensland Career Development Grant in 2009.

Amy Clarke has been exhibiting for over ten years in Brisbane, Sydney and regional areas of New South Wales and Queensland. Her work is held in private and corporate collections in Australia, USA and France.
She works from her home studio in Australia’s beautiful Noosa hinterland. Amy thinks of this space as ‘a room of one’s own’ – although at times it can be invaded by other local residents – mainly, her beloved children, husband, ten chooks, two boisterous dogs or the resident carpet snake.
